FALL FAVORITES 2016

fall favorites 2016

I’m back! It has been embarrassingly long since I’ve done a blog post and for that I’m so sorry! I’ve been working super hard over the past few months getting through school with Makeup Designory and becoming a certified makeup artist! Now that everything is settling down I finally have the time to start posting again, and what better was to start than with a Fall Favorites post!? Let’s jump right in.

This fall season is all about warm tones, glitter, and glow! Fall inspires me to break out the oranges, reds, and plums in my arsenal and I also like to go for more dramatic makeup looks during the fall/winter season. I have a ton of new items, oldie but goodies and some skin care faves as well!

The Master Palette by Mario– $45, anastasiabeverlyhills.com

I just had to start off my fall favorites with the Master Palette. Celebrity MUA (AKA Kim Kardashian’s mua of over 10 years) Mario Dedivanovic collaborated with Anastasia Beverly Hills to create this gorgeous, career-inspired palette. The warm, neutral-toned palette includes 3 beautiful matte shades that are just a dream team for fall. There’s red, gold, bronze and can we talk about the GORGEOUS forest green shimmer shade The Bronx?! That color is everything I could ever want in a fall eyeshadow! These shadows are so packed with pigment, and a little goes a looooong way. My favorite thing about this palette is how classic it is. There are no crazy outliers that I would never use; yet each shade is unique. It’s easy to wear every day or for a super bold night out. It is a limited edition palette, so if you want this to become a fall staple, you better hurry up and grab it while you can!

Slayla” Lashes by Flutter Lashes– $9.95, morphebrushes.com

What I look for in a lash, #1 is comfort. A lash can be drop dead gorgeous, but if it is so uncomfortable that I want to rip it off after 5 minutes, count me out. I’ve always heard great things about this indie brand, and decided to give it a try while shopping for brushes on Morphe’s site one day. The first pair I bought were in the style, “Intoxicating” (see basically every Instagram look by @Amrezy) and I immediately fell in love. They we so good, but also really dramatic. So, I decided to try another style that I could wear for more every day makeup looks. The “Slayla” lashes are absolutely perfect. I don’t think I’ve ever worn a lash that’s more comfortable. They have the perfect balance of wispy-drama that adds just what I need to any look. Most higher end brands you find have pretty thick, even stiff, bands so it’s really surprising to me how Flutter managed to create such a beautiful and comfortable lash. Oh yeah, and they are reusable. As long as you clean and properly store your lashes, I recommend use up to 30 times!

androgyny liquid lipstick

“Androgyny” Velour Liquid Lipstick by Jeffree Star– $18, jeffreestarcosmetics.com

Everyone looks for that perfect fall lip color. We all want those deep reds, sultry plums, and daring wines. On a regular day, I usually stick with a neutral lip. Last year, “Lolita,” by Kat Von D was my favorite shade, and that hasn’t changed this year. However, I find myself wanting a little more of a dark, berry color with the looks I create, and “Androgyny,” by Jeffree Star is just perfect. It is a very deep mauvey-berry-plumish red (if that makes ANY sense). Additionally, Jeffree Star Cosmetics creates, in my opinion, the best formulation of liquid lipsticks on the market. They glide on smooth and opaque right off the bat and dry down fully matte and do not dry out the lips like most brands do. He first came out with that last year as a limited edition shade, but the demand was so high that he added it to his permanent collection- it isn’t hard to see why so many people love it!

warm soul blush

“Warm Soul” Mineralize Blush by MAC Cosmetics– $28, maccosmetics.com

I never used to be into blush. In fact, I used to skip wearing it all together. Now that I’ve gotten more and more into makeup, I understand the importance of blush and it is now essentially to my makeup routine. One blush that I will never be able to replace in my collection is “Warm Soul,” by MAC. I usually only break this out during the fall/winter and I use it on 99% of my clients. It has a super flattering warm neutral base color that flatters virtually any skin tone, as well as a slight sheen that adds the perfect radiance to the face without being overpowering. Unfortunately, MAC reformulated this blush I think a year or so ago, so that one I have isn’t available anymore. However, the new formulation is pretty similar and still very much worth it. Blush always feels like one of those things that I don’t need a ton of, so I would suggest purchasing one or two for your collection- one for fall/winter and one for spring/summer.

heavy metal glitter liner

“Midnight Cowboy” Heavy Metal Glitter Liner by Urban Decay– $20, ulta.com

This season is all about glitter. I can’t get enough of glitter. You can play it up or down, and it doesn’t always have to be super intense. You can use it to add that little extra pop you’re looking for! That is what I absolutely LOVE about the Heavy Metal Glitter Liner from Urban Decay. They are so versatile and can build up to whatever intensity you desire. I love the shade Midnight Cowboy because it is the perfect neutral gold-silver glitter that can be added over top ANY color eyeshadow. It seriously matches everything. I like having one thing that I can use in a ton of ways instead of a million different things that I can only use for a specific look, so this is perfect for me. I use it over top shadows on my lid, on my inner corners for a little pop, on top of winged liner, even on my lower lash line sometimes! It is seriously such a good product!!

tarte shape tape

“Shape Tape” Concealer by Tarte Cosmetics– $24, ulta.com

If you haven’t heard about the miracle that is Tarte’s Shape Tape concealer, then you must be living on another planet. I love full coverage makeup, like, all the time. This concealer is the fullest of full coverage, yet is somehow super lightweight. The reason I love this for fall is that fact that my under eye area tends to crease easily and becomes super dried out in the cold weather. Shape Tape completely changes that. It doesn’t cling to dry patches and fills in those lines without creasing up or looking cakey. I would love to know the chemistry behind this concealer because it’s just that amazing. I even use this on days where I don’t want to wear makeup so I’ll just blend a little bit out under my eyes and I’m ready to go!  Additionally, the applicator on this thing is insanely huge, which makes use easy and fast. Also, make sure you get the right shade! There is a difference between a concealer shade and a shade you want to highlight your face with.

tony moly

Tony Moly Sheet Masks– $3.75, ulta.com (or in bulk on Amazon!)

Sheet masks are the bomb.com. I use them at least once a week, twice if I’m feeling myself. The thing that is great about sheet masks, especially in the fall, is that they lock in all the moisture. You lay these product-soaked sheets on your face for 20-30 minutes and it really gives your skin a chance to soak everything up. So if you struggle with dry skin from the cold weather, these are perfect for you. They are pretty inexpensive, too. I believe I get a 10 pack on Amazon for like 9 bucks or something and they are so worth it. There are a variety of treatments, like Aloe Vera, Red Wine, Rice Milk, and even broccoli for vitality!! My favorite is the Red Wine mask because it is designed to hydrate and refine pores. It seriously feels like a spa day every time I use these and they definitely help after a long week of wearing makeup!

morphe contour brush

R14 Round Contour Brush by Morphe– $9.99, morphebrushes.com

I tend to relax with the contouring during the summer months. I like to just bronze up my face and let my natural skin do its job with the little tan I can achieve. When fall rolls around, that’s when I break back out the contour powders. And what is the perfect contour without the perfect brush? Since I like to go for the defined cheek look, the R14 brush from Morphe is the best. At first, I was skeptical because of how dense the bristles are. I was worried it would move around my foundation and would be too hard to blend, but I started using it regularly and it instantly became a favorite. I actually like how dense it is. It makes contouring in a super defined, sharp way really easy. If you’re a beginner, I would suggest working your way up to this brush, as it can be difficult to blend if you don’t have a proper technique down just yet, but it definitely will be sticking around in my collection for the fall!

So that’s it for my 2016 fall favorites! Obviously there are a ton more items I could talk about, but these are the ones that are nearest and dearest to my heart this season! What are some of your favorites? Do we have any in common? I hope you enjoyed this blog post, let me know in the comments what you’d like to see next! Thanks for reading! xo
